Features · Manuscript

Write it scene by scene.

A plain-Markdown manuscript with a tree, and a memory for the facts behind each scene.

Markdown

A tree of parts, chapters, scenes.

Each node has a title, a synopsis and a status: idea, outline, draft, revised or final. A scene also has a time, a place, a point of view and a cast, and it can be marked as present, a flashback, a dream or a memory. Word counts are kept per scene and per book.

  • Markdown you own, exportable any time
  • Mention a character as @[Name](profile:id)
  • Autosave, and a scene switch mid-sentence keeps your text

Four modes

A book has four places.

  • Write

The scene page with an inspector for its time, place and cast.

  • Story

Timeline, board of strands by chapter, outline and events.

  • Bible

The cast and the places, as cards or a ruled list.

  • Share

    Versions, readers and export.

Move a scene, its time moves too.

Scenes can be anchored to events, so moving a scene in story time moves the events anchored to it. Relative calendars work when your story has no real dates.

Questions

About writing.

What can I write?

Novels, novellas, short stories and series books; a book has a form (short story, novella, novel, series book, screenplay or other), a language and a calendar. Scenes are Markdown.

What are the statuses and modes of a scene?

Status: idea, outline, draft, revised or final. Mode: present, flashback, dream or memory. Flashbacks, dreams and memories are exempt from the presence rules of the checks.

Does it save automatically?

Yes. The editor autosaves, and switching scene in the middle of a sentence keeps your text. For a safe point to return to, save a version.

What if my story has no real dates?

Choose a relative calendar for the book. Story time is then counted from a zero point you set, and the timeline works the same.

Start with one scene.
